What we've learned booking EVA Air
EVA Air Royal Laurel Class on the 787-9 and 777-300ER is the Taiwanese carrier that delivers a product squarely in the JAL/ANA tier — fully flat reverse herringbone with direct aisle access, attentive service, and excellent Asian catering — at prices that consistently come in $300-500 below the Japanese carriers on comparable transpacific routes. EVA's Star Alliance membership means United MileagePlus members earn full miles, and the Infinity MileageLands loyalty program has generous earning rates in business class. Taipei Taoyuan Airport (TPE) is a clean, efficient connecting hub for onward travel to Southeast Asia, mainland China, and Japan, and EVA's regional network from TPE covers the entire region with business class connections. The airline is also the carrier of choice for the Hello Kitty fanbase — their branded aircraft generate genuine social media excitement — but the underlying product is serious: consistently rated among the top 10 business class products globally by Skytrax. Our consolidator rates on EVA are strong on LAX-TPE and SFO-TPE routes, and the onward connection value to Southeast Asia via Taipei is often better than routing through Tokyo or Hong Kong.

The business class experience
EVA Air Royal Laurel Class features Lie-flat reverse herringbone with direct aisle access. Seat width is 23 inches and fully extended bed length is 78 inches — comfortable for passengers up to about 6'3" (190cm) to sleep fully flat. The seat layout on EVA Air's long-haul widebody aircraft typically offers direct aisle access for every business class passenger, so you never have to climb over a seatmate.
In-flight entertainment is delivered via 18-inch 4K touchscreen. Dining on EVA Air: Taiwanese and international cuisine, Din Tai Fung-inspired dishes. Baggage allowance in business class: 2 × 32kg checked. All flights include amenity kits, premium bedding, and priority boarding/baggage handling.
Lounges and ground experience
At the home hub: EVA Air Infinity Lounge (TPE). At other airports worldwide: Star Alliance partner lounges worldwide. Lounge access is included with your business class ticket — you show your boarding pass at the lounge entrance and receive food, drinks, WiFi, and dedicated workspaces until boarding time.
On the ground at departure, EVA Air business class passengers get dedicated check-in counters, fast-track security lanes where available, and priority boarding. At arrival, baggage is tagged with priority labels and comes out first — typically saving 15-30 minutes versus economy on heavily-loaded flights.

- Boeing 787-9Boeing
The most-deployed long-haul widebody in current production. Cabin pressurization (~6,000 ft) and humidity (10-15%) better than older 777 metal. Composite fuselage allows larger windows.
- Boeing 777-300ERBoeing
The dominant long-haul widebody for the past two decades. Most carriers operate two cabin generations on this airframe: older 2-3-2 Business (avoid where possible) and newer 1-2-1 sliding-door cabins (Emirates Game Changer, BA Club Suite, Qatar Qsuite, AA Flagship Suite).
- Airbus A330-300Airbus
The widely-deployed older-generation A330. Cabin technology is older than 787 or A350. Many carriers operate 2-2-2 Business on A330-300 (older configurations) or 1-2-1 on newer cabin retrofits.
