Editor's note — Qantas
What we've learned booking Qantas
Qantas Business on the A380 upper deck is one of the best long-haul products in the Asia-Pacific market — an Australian carrier that's been steadily investing in their premium offering while maintaining the friendly, no-nonsense service style that defines the Qantas experience. The A380 upper deck Business seat is fully flat with direct aisle access, and the catering features Australian produce (Margaret River wines, Barossa Valley cheese, Neil Perry-designed menus) that makes the 15-hour LAX-SYD flight feel more like a culinary experience than an endurance test. The 787 Business on some frequencies is a step below — check aircraft type before booking. Qantas' Oneworld membership means BA and AA frequent flyers earn full miles, and the Qantas Frequent Flyer program itself has excellent redemption rates for premium cabin awards. Our consolidator rates on Qantas produce meaningful savings on the LAX-SYD and SFO-SYD routes, where the gap between consolidator and retail can be $800-1,200 per ticket. For any US-Australia routing, Qantas non-stop from the West Coast is our default recommendation — the product and the direct routing both justify the fare premium over connecting alternatives.

Airline overview
Qantas business class is the benchmark for long-haul Australia travel. Neil Perry-designed dining, premium Australian wines, and the iconic Qantas First Lounge in Sydney with its spa make this a world-class experience.
The business class experience
Qantas Business features Lie-flat with direct aisle access (A380/787). Seat width is 22 inches and fully extended bed length is 80 inches — comfortable for passengers up to about 6'3" (190cm) to sleep fully flat. The seat layout on Qantas's long-haul widebody aircraft typically offers direct aisle access for every business class passenger, so you never have to climb over a seatmate.
In-flight entertainment is delivered via 18-inch 4K touchscreen. Dining on Qantas: Neil Perry-designed menu, premium Australian wines. Baggage allowance in business class: 2 × 32kg checked. All flights include amenity kits, premium bedding, and priority boarding/baggage handling.
Lounges and ground experience
At the home hub: Qantas First Lounge (SYD/MEL) — spa, Neil Perry dining, barista coffee. At other airports worldwide: oneworld partner lounges worldwide. Lounge access is included with your business class ticket — you show your boarding pass at the lounge entrance and receive food, drinks, WiFi, and dedicated workspaces until boarding time.
On the ground at departure, Qantas business class passengers get dedicated check-in counters, fast-track security lanes where available, and priority boarding. At arrival, baggage is tagged with priority labels and comes out first — typically saving 15-30 minutes versus economy on heavily-loaded flights.
What travelers say

Qantas aircraft we book
Qantas qantas business on each aircraft type — cabin product, seat configuration, and route examples.
- Airbus A380Airbus
Double-deck superjumbo. Most carriers reserve the upper deck for premium cabins (Business + First). Cabin is exceptionally quiet at cruise; humidity is higher than older twin-aisle aircraft. Boarding via two jet bridges on most stations.
- Boeing 787-9Boeing
The most-deployed long-haul widebody in current production. Cabin pressurization (~6,000 ft) and humidity (10-15%) better than older 777 metal. Composite fuselage allows larger windows.
- Airbus A330-200Airbus
Shorter A330 variant — primarily medium-haul. Premium cabins are typically smaller (16-30 Business seats). Cabin pressurization same older generation as A330-300.
