Cabin Comparison Guide

Business Class vs Premium Economy

When is the upgrade worth it? Our agents break down the real seat, food, and price differences across all major airlines.

Business Class
Fully lie-flat bed (75–80 inches)
Dedicated business class lounge
20–23 inch seat width
Chef-prepared multi-course dining
From $1,850 (consolidator)
Premium Economy
Reclines (not fully flat) — 38–40 inch pitch
No lounge access (usually)
18–20 inch seat width
Better meals than economy
From $980 (consolidator)

Our verdict: when is business class worth the upgrade?

On flights under 5 hours, premium economy is often the smarter choice — the extra premium for business class is harder to justify when you won't sleep anyway. On flights over 7 hours, especially overnight transatlantic or transpacific routes, the lie-flat bed in business class is genuinely transformative. Arriving in London or Tokyo having slept fully flat for 7 hours is worth hundreds of dollars in productivity and comfort. At consolidator pricing (often only $800–$1,000 more than premium economy retail), the value calculation is very different from retail business class.
