Fare Class
Definition: A fare class (or booking class) is a letter code assigned to an airline ticket that determines its price, refund/change rules, mileage earning rate, and upgrade eligibility. Each cabin contains multiple fare classes at different price points.
Every airline ticket has a fare class designated by a single letter (A–Z). Business class fare classes might include J (full fare), C, D, I, or Z, depending on the airline. Economy might use Y (full fare), B, M, H, K, Q, L, and others. Each class has different rules for changes, cancellations, and mileage earning.
Fare classes are critical for frequent flyers because they directly affect how many miles you earn. A full-fare J class business ticket might earn 150% of the distance in miles, while a discounted I class business ticket might only earn 100%. The fare class also determines upgrade eligibility — cheaper fare classes are often ineligible for complimentary upgrades.
Consolidator fares from BookMyBusinessClass are booked into specific fare classes that offer the best balance of price and benefits. Our agents can explain exactly which fare class your ticket is in and what benefits it includes for mileage earning, changes, and upgrades.
