Priority Boarding
Definition: Priority boarding allows business class, first class, and elite frequent flyer passengers to board the aircraft before general economy boarding, ensuring access to overhead bin space and a relaxed boarding experience.
Priority boarding is a standard benefit for premium cabin passengers and elite frequent flyers. Airlines typically board in groups: first class and top-tier elites first, then business class and mid-tier elites, followed by premium economy and general boarding groups.
The primary benefits of priority boarding are: guaranteed overhead bin space near your seat, time to settle in and enjoy a pre-departure drink, a calmer boarding experience, and the ability to arrange your belongings before the cabin fills up. For business class passengers, the pre-departure drink and the ability to begin relaxing immediately are valued perks.
While priority boarding may seem minor compared to other business class benefits, it sets the tone for the premium experience. Being welcomed by name, offered champagne, and settling into your seat while the cabin is quiet contributes to the overall sense of luxury and relaxation that justifies the premium fare.
