Aircraft retrofit tracker

A live status sheet of every major premium-cabin retrofit and new-cabin programme we follow. 12 programmes across the carriers in our network. Each row carries a per-source citation and a last-verified date so you can sanity-check before booking.

Aircraft assignment determines the seat product on most long-haul carriers. A booked routing labelled “777-300ER” on one carrier might be the brand-new product or the eight-year-old original — same plane, same flight number, materially different in-cabin experience. This tracker tells you which programme covers which aircraft, what the booking implication is, and where the underlying carrier announcement lives.

Japan Airlines A350-1000 First Class & Business Class

First / Business · Airbus A350-1000

In service

JAL's A350-1000 first-class suite is the largest on any commercial aircraft in service, with a closing-door enclosure and dual flat surfaces. Business class on the same airframe brings a redesigned Sky Suite product with updated finishes and improved storage.

Booking implication

The A350-1000 first-class suites are guaranteed on every A350-1000 service. Routes are concentrated on JFK and LAX from HND. Award availability is irregular; paid first carries a meaningful but not extreme premium over Sky Suite business.

United Airlines Polaris

Business · Boeing 777-300ER · Boeing 777-200ER · Boeing 787-9 · Boeing 787-10 · Boeing 767-300ER

In service

United's Polaris business class is largely deployed across the long-haul widebody fleet, with Polaris Lounges at major US hubs (ORD, EWR, SFO, IAD, LAX) anchoring the experience. Polaris Studio (1A/1L on 787-9 only) launched as the premium-of-premium variant in 2025.

Booking implication

Almost every United long-haul widebody flight is Polaris-equipped. Polaris Studio seats on the 787-9 carry a small upcharge but offer materially more space — worth the difference on flights ≥ 10 hours.

Air France La Première (next generation)

First · Boeing 777-300ER

Rolling out

Air France is rolling out a redesigned La Première First Class suite on selected 777-300ER aircraft, with private suites approaching the dimensions of competitor Singapore Suites and Emirates Game Changer. Initial deployment focused on JFK / LAX / GIG / HND / SIN routings.

Booking implication

La Première is sold via paid first or specific Flying Blue redemption levels and is restricted to a small subset of 777-300ER aircraft. Specific suite availability is best confirmed through the Air France First Class concierge desk before booking.

British Airways Club Suite

Business · Boeing 777-300ER · Boeing 777-200ER · Airbus A350-1000 · Boeing 787-10

Rolling out

British Airways replaced its yin-yang Club World seat with the Club Suite — a 1-2-1 configuration with closing doors, direct aisle access, and a larger IFE screen. The A350 and 787-10 fleets shipped Club Suite from delivery; the 777 fleet is being progressively retrofitted.

Booking implication

Almost all long-haul BA flights now operate Club Suite, but a small minority of 777-200ER routings still have the old Club World. Check the seat map for 1-2-1 vs 2-4-2 to confirm. The new product is materially better for solo and couple travelers.

Cathay Pacific Aria Suite

Business · Boeing 777-300ER (retrofit) · Boeing 777-9 (from delivery)

Rolling out

Cathay's Aria Suite replaces the long-running Cirrus business-class seat with a 1-2-1 herringbone-with-door layout, a larger IFE screen, and additional storage. Rollout is staged across the 777-300ER fleet ahead of the 777-9 deliveries that ship Aria from new.

Booking implication

Aria-equipped aircraft are concentrated on the longest routes (HKG–JFK / LAX / LHR initially). On medium-haul routes, the older Cirrus product is still common. Confirm via seat map.

Delta Air Lines Delta One Suites

Business · Airbus A350-900 · Airbus A330-900neo · Boeing 767-400ER (in-progress)

Rolling out

Delta One Suites brought industry-first sliding doors to North American business class. The A350 and A330-900neo entered service equipped; the 767-400ER fleet is being retrofitted, while the older 767-300ER remains on the original Delta One reverse-herringbone for now.

Booking implication

Delta One Suites are guaranteed on A350 and A330-900neo aircraft. On 767 routes, check the seat map — a 1-2-1 with doors is the new product, 1-2-1 without doors is the older configuration. Both are fully flat.

Emirates Game Changer (new 777 cabin)

First / Business / Premium Economy · Boeing 777-300ER (retrofit) · Boeing 777-9 (delivery from 2026)

Rolling out

Emirates is mid-way through a multi-year retrofit of its 777-300ER fleet to a new four-cabin configuration that introduces Premium Economy across the long-haul network and refreshes business class to a 1-2-1 layout. The Game Changer first-class suite remains the flagship product.

Booking implication

Aircraft assignment determines whether you get the Game Changer suites, the older first-class product, or the new business-class layout. Premium Economy is now bookable on a growing list of routes; check seat-map for a dedicated PE cabin block before paying for the upcharge.

Lufthansa Allegris

First / Business / Premium Economy / Economy · Airbus A350-900 · Boeing 747-8 · Boeing 787-9

Rolling out

Lufthansa's long-trailed cabin overhaul brings a brand-new First Class suite, a business-class seat with individual privacy doors, and a redesigned Premium Economy. Rollout has been staged across the A350 first, with the 747-8 and 787-9 following over 2025–2027.

Booking implication

Allegris flights are bookable on selected A350 routes today; specific aircraft assignments change frequently. To guarantee Allegris on a given departure, check the seat map at booking and again 24-48 hours before the flight. Equipment swaps to a non-Allegris A340 still happen on some routes.

Qatar Airways Qsuite

Business · Boeing 777-300ER · Boeing 777-200LR · Airbus A350-1000 · Airbus A350-900 (partial)

Rolling out

Qsuite remains the benchmark business-class product on the world's densest long-haul routes — a quad-suite "Q-bed" configuration with a sliding door and a four-passenger middle group that converts into a shared dining or working space. Coverage is now near-universal on 777-300ER and A350-1000.

Booking implication

Qsuite is essentially guaranteed on Qatar Airways 777-300ER and A350-1000 services. The A350-900 sub-fleet still has a mix of Qsuite and the older Apex Suite — confirm via seat map. The middle "honeymoon" group only converts when both passengers are travelling together.

ANA The Room (next generation)

Business · Boeing 777-9 (from delivery) · Boeing 787-10 (retrofit)

Announced

ANA has confirmed a refresh of "The Room" business-class product as part of its 777-9 delivery and a 787-10 retrofit. The original The Room remains one of the largest business-class seats on any narrowbody-equivalent footprint, and the next generation extends the format with updated finishes and cabin technology.

Booking implication

Existing The Room product on the 777-300ER remains the in-service flagship; new variant lands with the 777-9. As of this report, The Room is bookable across most ANA long-haul 777 routings.

Qantas Project Sunrise A350-1000 ULR

First / Business / Premium Economy / Economy · Airbus A350-1000 ULR

Announced

Qantas's Project Sunrise will bring nonstop Sydney–London and Sydney–New York services on a specially configured A350-1000 ULR. Cabin layout removes the rear economy block in favour of a larger premium economy cabin and a wellness zone — a deliberate response to the 19+ hour flight profile.

Booking implication

Not yet bookable. When it ships, expect Project Sunrise services to be the only nonstop options on the corridor — currently every alternative routing involves at least one stop. The first suite-style first-class product on Qantas long-haul will land with this programme.

Singapore Airlines New 777-9 / A350 cabins

First / Business / Premium Economy · Boeing 777-9 (delivery from 2026) · Airbus A350-900 (retrofit)

Announced

Singapore Airlines has confirmed a new long-haul cabin programme aligned to its 777-9 delivery and an A350-900 retrofit. The new Suites and business class build on the existing benchmark products, with capacity adjustments rather than radical seat-format changes.

Booking implication

New cabins are not yet bookable as of this report. Existing Singapore Suites on the A380 and A350 ULR remain the benchmark first-class product on the network. Watch the Singapore Airlines press centre for the first commercial 777-9 routing.

How to use this tracker

Four practical reading angles

  1. Before booking a premium-cabin ticket on a covered carrier, find the relevant programme below and read the "Booking implication" column — it tells you what the per-aircraft variation looks like.
  2. When the seat map at booking shows a layout that conflicts with what the carrier markets, the tracker is usually the first place to check whether the aircraft has or has not been retrofitted.
  3. For pre-trip planning on suites-class fares, treat the "in-service" rows as guaranteed and "rolling-out" rows as conditional — the upside is real but variable.
  4. For award-redemption planning, "announced" programmes are interesting flags: a fleet about to retrofit often has discounted award seats released as airlines try to clear pre-retrofit inventory.

Methodology

What we track and how we verify

The tracker covers programmes that materially change the booking decision for premium-cabin travelers on long-haul flights — new-generation business or first-class seats, retrofit programmes that shift a fleet’s premium product to a different layout, and confirmed cabin-overhaul commitments tied to upcoming aircraft delivery. Smaller refurbishments (new IFE, soft-product refresh without seat changes) are not included; nor are programmes from carriers our consolidator network does not broker tickets on.

Every row carries a lastVerifieddate and a sources column with at least one click-through link to a carrier press release, investor materials, or recognised industry trade press. When a programme’s underlying source updates, we refresh the row in the same publication cycle. Rows older than 90 days at refresh time get a mandatory re-check before the next quarterly report ships.

Status taxonomy: in-service means the retrofitted aircraft are flying and bookable, rolling-out means delivery or retrofit is in progress and only some aircraft are bookable, announced means the programme has been launched publicly but no aircraft are flying yet, and delivery-paused means the programme has stalled (supply chain, certification, or commercial dispute). The taxonomy is a description of where each programme sits — not a quality judgment on the underlying product.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Why does this matter for booking premium cabin?
Aircraft assignment determines the seat product on most long-haul carriers. A booked routing labelled "777-300ER" on one carrier might be the brand-new product or the 8-year-old original — same plane, same flight number, materially different in-cabin experience. The tracker tells you which programme covers which aircraft so you can check the seat map intelligently before paying premium-cabin money.
How is this verified?
Each row carries a `lastVerified` date and a sources column with at least one click-through link to a carrier press release, investor materials, or recognised industry trade press. We refresh rows when the underlying source updates — anything older than 90 days at refresh time gets a re-check before the next quarterly report ships.
Is this the complete universe of retrofit programmes?
No. We track the programmes that materially change the booking decision for premium-cabin travelers across the routes our consolidator catalog covers. Smaller refurbishments (new IFE, refreshed soft product without seat changes) are not included. Programmes from carriers we don't broker tickets on may also be omitted.
How can I get notified when a row changes?
Email the editorial desk at editor@bookmybusinessclass.com with the carrier or programme name and we'll add you to the per-programme update list. Or subscribe to the broader news roundup (forthcoming) for the periodic digest.
