ANA The Room Business Class Review 2026
Last updated
ANA's "The Room" on the 777-300ER remains — as of early 2026 — arguably the single best business class hard product flying. ANA launched The Room in 2019 as a widened suite with a door, essentially creating a half-size first class experience at business class fares. This review covers The Room in detail, the older ANA Business configuration, and how to specifically book The Room on US-Japan routes.
The Room: what makes it exceptional
ANA's The Room is a 1-2-1 configuration on 777-300ER in a staggered layout, but the distinctive feature is seat width — The Room is 38 inches wide at seat level (compared to typical business class widths of 21-25 inches), with a bed that extends to 79 inches by 30 inches wide. The suite has a full-height door and is genuinely equivalent in size to some first class products on other carriers.
The cabin feel is notable. With the door closed, The Room is genuinely private — the suite walls extend high enough that you cannot see adjacent passengers, and the bed configuration with the mattress and bedding ANA provides (a real pillow, real duvet, and mattress pad) is one of the best sleep experiences in commercial aviation.
The Room deploys on ANA's 777-300ER fleet, specifically on US routes (JFK-HND, LAX-HND, SFO-HND, ORD-HND, IAH-HND, IAD-HND) and on selected Europe routes (LHR-HND, FRA-HND). Check aircraft type at booking — not all 777 ANA rotations are 777-300ER with The Room; some are 777-200ER with older Business configuration.
The older ANA Business Staggered product
On 777-200ER and 787 rotations, ANA operates a "Business Staggered" configuration — 1-2-1 with staggered positioning and no door. The seat is competent but noticeably less premium than The Room. Width is 21 inches, pitch 62 inches, and there's no privacy door.
When booking routes where ANA operates multiple daily frequencies, prefer the flight numbers operating 777-300ER (check aircraft type carefully). On some routes (JFK-HND for instance), ANA has multiple daily rotations and aircraft type can vary between flights; The Room is on specific flights and worth selecting for.
ANA service and Japanese hospitality
ANA crew service is consistently ranked in the top three globally (with Singapore and Japan Airlines). The service style is distinctly Japanese — attentive but unobtrusive, formal but genuinely warm. Crews are well-drilled on English and typically serve US-Japan routes with bilingual capability.
The pre-flight and arrival experience on ANA is exceptional on both ends. Haneda (HND) immigration is fast for ANA-connecting passengers via dedicated lanes. JFK and LAX outbound use partner Star Alliance lounges (United Polaris Lounge at JFK T7, Star Alliance LAX TBIT lounge) for pre-departure dwells.
Catering is among the strongest in global business class. Japanese meals are prepared to restaurant standards with real detail — kaiseki-style multi-course meal service on long-haul, Japanese breakfast before arrival, and Western options also available. Sake and shochu selections are distinctive. Champagne service is Perrier-Jouët Blanc de Blancs or Taittinger depending on rotation.
The Haneda connection experience
Haneda Airport (HND) replaced Narita as ANA's primary international hub in 2020, and the difference matters for US passengers. Haneda is 30 minutes from downtown Tokyo; Narita is 60-90 minutes. For business travel to central Tokyo (Shinjuku, Roppongi, Marunouchi), Haneda saves significant time.
ANA's Lounge at HND International Terminal (Terminal 3) is among Asia's best. Two levels, multiple dining options (including made-to-order sushi and tempura stations), shower suites, and quiet zones. ANA Suite Lounge (for First Class and elite passengers) is separate and even better.
Connection timing is typically 1-2 hours for onward ANA domestic flights. Most onward connections to second-tier Japanese cities (Osaka, Nagoya, Sapporo, Fukuoka) operate from the adjacent domestic terminal; the transfer is signposted and efficient.
ANA Business Class on specific US-Japan routes
JFK-HND is the premier US-Japan route for ANA, with two daily rotations as of 2026. The flagship rotation (typically NH 8/7) operates 777-300ER with The Room. Consolidator pricing $4,800-6,500 round-trip.
LAX-HND, SFO-HND, and ORD-HND all operate 777-300ER with The Room on flagship daily rotations. Consolidator pricing $4,200-5,900 round-trip. IAH-HND and IAD-HND operate less frequently and aircraft type varies; confirm The Room availability at booking.
JAL (Japan Airlines) is the Oneworld alternative on similar routes with its Sky Suite product. Sky Suite is competitive with The Room on hard product; JAL's service style is similar to ANA. For travelers with AAdvantage or Oneworld status, JAL is the cleaner choice; for Star Alliance members, ANA The Room is the premium pick.
ANA Mileage Club and Star Alliance benefits
ANA Mileage Club is the in-house program. ANA Business Class bookings earn miles and Premium Points toward Platinum, Diamond, and lifetime tiers. United MileagePlus members can earn miles for ANA flights via the Star Alliance partnership; this is particularly valuable for US-based travelers.
ANA Mileage Club award chart pricing for Business Class from the US is competitive. The sweet spot is round-trip North America to Asia — often 75,000-90,000 miles each way in Business Class via saver availability. Membership rewards transfers from Amex, Chase, and Citi credit card programs are 1:1 to ANA.
