The award chart is distance-based with Reward Flight Saver pricing (a slider between miles and cash). The 2023 Privilege Club integration made Avios redeemable for Qatar Airways Qsuite — a marquee sweet spot for trans-Atlantic and Asia redemptions. The cash-fee component is the variable to model: BA-operated transatlantic redemptions carry significant cash fees; Aer Lingus and Iberia routings are markedly cheaper on the cash side.

200,000 Avios for Qantas Business Suite on LAX-SYD
Qantas A380 Business Suite at 200,000 Avios is the only practical Avios path to South Pacific. The product is excellent, the cash fees are clean ($100-250 range), and Qantas releases meaningful partner space close to departure. The mileage cost is high in absolute terms but reflects the actual distance on the longest single Avios redemption.

Avios is one of the more expensive currencies for South Pacific redemptions due to the distance-based pricing on a long-haul region.
BA-routed via LHR + onward Asia / SIN to Australia is theoretically possible but the cumulative distance bands and UK APD make it impractical.
For New Zealand: Qantas does not serve AKL directly; routings via Sydney / Melbourne are required.
